On Sunday the 30th of May 2010, Khilafat Day Jalsa was held at the Bait-Ul-Huda Mosque in Sydney. After the funeral prayers, the proceedings of the Khilafat Day Jalsa commenced at 2:15pm. Australia Day Celebrations at Bait-ul-Huda Mosque

On Saturday 26th of January 2008, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Australia celebrated Australia Day at Bait-ul-Huda Mosque in Sydney, Australia. This program was organized by Mirza Ramzan Sharif sahib.

Repeated reminders of this program in the Sydney Halqas and the “Front Page” coverage by the local newspaper Blacktown Sun prior to the day resulted in a good response from both the jamaat members and jamaat guests. Earlier in the day, the Australian Flag was hoisted, followed by the program starting at 2:00pm.

The session was chaired by Mirza Ramzan Sharif sahib, who started by introducing the program as part of the nations biggest celebration. Quran recitation and translation was very well managed by Khalid Naser sahaib. Mirza Ramzan Sharif briefed the audience about the significance of the Holy Quran in the live of a Muslim. He then emphasized on a very important teaching of the Holy Prophet “To love your nation is a part of faith”.

Next, the Atfal Team presented their very well rehearsed National Anthem, followed by Aboriginal Acknowledgement by Tariq Chauhan. The chairperson explained the significance of both the National Anthem and the Aboriginal  Acknowledgement. He also added the following: “On Australia Day we come together as a nation to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian. It's the day to reflect on what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation. In our bi-centennial year, 1988, the Australia Day public holiday was held around the nation on January 26. Alongside the celebrations 1988 was named a Year of Mourning for Australia's Aboriginal people, who also regarded the year as a celebration of survival. It was the most vocal indigenous presence ever felt on 26 January 1988…...”.

Next, Javed Ahmadi’s speech gave a really inspiring insight into the responsibilities of the day to day lives of the Ahmadis as Australians. The chairperson further added a tradition of the Holy Prophet which reads “Paradise lies under the feet of the mother”. He said that Islam honours mothers so much that they become the central figures in rearing their children in such a way that they become responsible citizens, who in turn, contribute to building this nation.

The highlights of the speeches were the two short speeches by Nyla Mirza (aged 9 years old) and Fateen Ahmad Khan (aged 11 years old).

Nyla’s topic was “Australia, my Homeland” while Fateen handled a profound subject “Jihad, Let’s Strive for the Better!” very well.

After Fateen’s speech, Mirza Ramzan Sharif sahib reminded the audience of a very common historical human experience: “Swords can win territories, but not hearts; and similarly, force can bend heads, but not minds. He further explained that while human speech has the potential to brainwash a handful of ignorant to do wrong (even to the extent of suicide bombing), the intrinsic beauty and the lovely teachings of the Holy Quran requires softer hearts to be absorbed.

Marcel Braid, a teenage guest and friend to the community, gave a very moving speech on his observation of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. He said that his mum and dad have been heavily involved with the jamaat activities over a number of years. The chairperson also reminded about Mr Vincent Braid’s involvement with designing of the dome of the  mosque.

Then the chairperson called upon Farhad Jan Khan sahib to introduce the Councillors from the Blacktown City Council. Some of the dignitaries who attended were Cr Ron Alder (Local Government Ward 1), Cr Alan Pendleton (Local Government Ward 1), Cr Kathie Collins (Local Government Ward 3), Cr Tony Bleasdale (Local Government Ward 5) and Mrs Louise Markus MP (Electoral Division Greenway NSW, Liberal Party of Australia). The guest speakers, Cr Kathie Collins, Cr Tony Bleasdale, Cr Alan Pendleton and Mrs Louise Markus MP all spoke very positively about the efforts made by the community in staging such a program that promotes peace and harmony in the country.

Finally, Mirza Ramzan Sharif sahib thanked the audience, including the guests for attending the celebrations and ended the session with silent prayers at 3:15 pm. The guests were than accompanied on a tour of the library, which was followed by refreshment in the meeting room. Excursions to Bait-ul-Huda Mosque

One hundred and twenty year 12 students accompanied by 6 teachers from Caroline Chisholm College visited us last year. Caroline Chisholm College is situated at Glenmore Park, the scenic valley just next to the Nepean river in the foothills of Blue Mountains. The students seemed to be impressed with their last year’s visit that they decided to visit us in greater numbers this year – 70 students and 4 teachers on 16th October 2007 and 70 students and 4 teachers on 18th October 2007.

excursion

Mirza Ramzan Sharif sahib, who conducted the excursion, received the students and teachers on both days from the Bait-ul-Huda car park and took them to the front of the mosque where they were warmly welcomed by the Ameer and Missionary Incharge Maulana Mahmood Ahmad Shahid sahib. They were then taken on a brief tour of the mosque, both externally and internally.

excursion

The very inquisitive students and teachers were shown and explained the architectural features of the mosque (minaret, mehraab, minbar, dome, library, etc).
Of course, this was such a great opportunity to remove all misconceptions concerning Islam and at the same time, enhance the beauty of Islam to heights of zenith. After the brief tour, a power point presentation on Islam and Ahmadiyyat was made. The topics included: Introduction of Islam; Founder of Islam; The authenticity of the Holy Quran; The pillars of Islam; The articles of faith; The purpose of Mosque; The distribution of world religions and Muslim sects; Foundation of the Ahmadiyya Community; Successorship; Khilafat Centenary; Our Motto; Our humanitarian work; Women in Islam; Veil in Islam; etc.

The conference style presentation also had a question answer session. In fact, it seemed that this was the highlight of the tour for our visitors. They enjoyed asking the questions as much as we enjoyed answering the questions. On one hand, the questions asked by the students and teachers were incredibly intelligent; On the other hand, the opportunity was seized to remove all misconceptions while beautifying Islam. Some of the questions asked were based on: Jihad; Spread of Islam by Sword; Purpose of Veil; Abortion; Contraception; Life after Death; Reincarnation; Prohibition of Pork Meat; Facing the Kaaba for Prayers; Sects in Islam; Islamic View on Judaism; Universality of Islam; Holy Prophet saw compared to other Biblical Prophets; Polygamy in Islam; Polyandry and Equality; Slavery and Islam; Truthfulness of Sects in Islam etc.

Even though the open days held at our centers are always rewarding, this particular tabligh channel has proven to be better in certain ways; the visitors had come on their own will and listened very attentively throughout the two hour lecture and question-answer session. God-Willingly, tabligh approach such as this will be promoted and implemented on a wider scale in the near future.
